Midsommar Morning

God Morgan! (we haven't learned much Swedish yet, but there's still time!). Today is the start of midsommar. This is the poster that was posted to every pole here on Styrso (island) We woke up a little late, but still got down to the harbor area for the morning's preparations.

my first duty of the morning was hoisting up the Swedish flag outside our house.
then we hiked down to the harbor where there is a large park with tennis court, sand volleyball, children's swings, etc and a big grassy area where the maypole was being decorated by the local arbor society.

This is a typical Swedish cottage or house of this island. You can see that everyone has their flags flying today. All red tile roofs and this seems to be a popular color for houses. (although a few are white)
Coffe and breakfast next. At the harbor are two eating places. This was Roxanne's choice for breakfast- coffee and princess cake! Mike chose banana cake. Both were delicious! This is like a pastry /gift shop and then you go outside in the herb garden to eat (pictures later)
Here is the park and the group is working on the pole, covering it with tree branch leave, then the side wreaths were attached with the yellow and blue ribbons. We hope you saw the video we posted earlier on this blog, it was quite fun to watch this group.
no, we didn't participate in the decorating, but here we are after the raising of the maypole!
