Eidfjord

After a day at sea we arrived at the town of Eidfjord Monday morning. Eidfjord is at the end of the Hardanger Fjord. We took a long hike from the port along a river and then up to an area where there are preserved Viking graves. This area had a reasonable amount of flat land, so there were quite a few farms.

Here you can see some farm land and farmhouses in the background, along with the mountains surrounding the fjord.

Roxanne is always on the lookout for sheep and we found some grazing in a pasture along the path we hiked.
Close to the water you can see how the mountains rise up from the water. The scenery was beautiful.
More pictures of us, this time in front of our ship, the MS Ryndam. The names of the Holland America ships come from dams on rivers in Holland that protect the towns and cities that are below sea level. The Ryndam refers to the dam on the Rhine river.
Walking the streets of Eidfjord, camera always ready.
This is from when we departed Eidfjord and they let people go to the bow of the ship while we cruised the fjord.
Roxanne became a little more comfortable along the railing of the ship. This is from the bow.
Here is Mike on the bow.
This was a small village along the fjord.
After a long day hiking and taking pictures, Roxanne relaxes and warms up.
(we calculated our hike that day about a 6 mile walk- up and down and over rocky terrain-we barely made it to to Ocean Bar for our ballroom dancing-although the dancing did seem to revive us.)
